Ms. Vibusha Madanayake, Research Assistant at the Institute of National Security Studies Sri Lanka (INSSSL) represented 4th International Conference on Education, Social Sciences and Humanities (SOCIOINT 2017) which was held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates on 10th–12th July 2017. This international conference was organized by the International Organization Centre of Academic Research, Istanbul, Turkey. Ms. Madanayake presented a paper titled “Globalization and the need for Policy Revision: In the Context of the United States Defence Strategy towards South Asia”. Here, she focused on the strategic interests of the US Defence policy towards the countries of the South Asian region and how those interests exacerbated following the September 11, 2001 attack to the security of the United States. As the findings of her research, she has pointed out four areas such as US Strategic Interest over Resources and Trade, the US containment of Chinese Power, Establishing Democracy and Human Rights and Prevention of Nuclear War and Inter-state Conflicts. She raised the point as to how and why the US policy should contribute to the development of South Asia, concluding with the point that US policy should really be in sync with development as their task is to promote infrastructure to scientific education.
