INSSSL Defence Review 2018 - Call for Papers

The Institute of National Security Studies Sri Lanka (INSSSL), the premier think-tank under the Ministry of Defence, was established by His Excellency the President, Maithripala Sirisena, in order to fill the existing gap within the Ministry for an establishment that could conduct high-quality research, academic debate and discussion on subjects related to national security in the regional and international context. INSSSL plays an important role in supporting the government by providing sound and timely assessment on facets of national security with the aim of safeguarding the country from internal and external threats; utilising its rich resource pool of eminent security analysts and practitioners; and serving as a central repository of knowledge for both scholars and practitioners committed to the nation’s unity, harmony and sovereignty.  
 
The Institute calls for papers for its flagship publication “INSSSL Defence Review 2018” which is a scholarly journal aimed to provide a research platform on defence and security studies with a priority to enhance the understanding of national, regional, international security and geopolitics.
 
The scope of the journal is to examine current trends and various aspects that encompass traditional and non traditional security. Authors can explore and debate these issues in the areas of strategic theory, policy studies and regional and global comparisons. Articles are aimed at defence scholars, analysts and professionals who are engaged in defence, security and conflict studies.
 
An Editorial Board appointed by the Institute will make the final selection based on the submission of abstracts (please see attached for guidelines). Papers selected to be published in the Defence Review will proceed through a double-blind peer review process. Referees will be drawn from experts in defence and security, academia, think tanks and non-governmental organisations.

Guidelines for the Author
 
1.General

1. The content should be of value and interest in the area of domestic, regional or international security; security strategies; and geopolitics.
2. Contribute to the literature on security and geopolitics, and assist in planning, policy making and analysis of domestic regional and international security environment.

 
2.Title Page
The title page should include the title of the paper, author(s) and author affiliation, a short title and approximately 5 key words. The  title of the paper should be short and simple, should not exceed more than 20 words.
 

1. Abstract

The Abstract should be within 200-250 words. It should be written in one paragraph and should summarize the scope of the paper.
 

1. Word Limit for the paper (if abstract is selected)

The paper should not exceed 4000 words. Tables, figures and maps used should be included within the body of the texts. Each table, figure or map used should be headed with a caption and title in bold italic.
 
5.Authorship and Originality

1. The paper should be original and should not have been published anywhere else before.
2. If the paper is based on prior research, please refer to them.

 
6.Format

1. Font - The paper should use Times New Roman. The main title in 16pt and the subtitles in 14pt. The body of the paper should be in 12pt. The footnotes should be in 10pt.
2. Spacing – Single space
3. Margin – 1.5 margin

 
7.Reference

1. Footnotes – Footnotes should be used to refer to the citations and works referred in the paper.
2. APA style referencing should be used to cite the work.
3. All the books, journals, articles and reports cited should be included in the reference list at the end of the paper. It should be organized in alphabetical order.
