Lieutenant Colonel E M G Nalin Samaranayake psc IG SLA military Research officer and Ms. Chandani Dissanayake, Research Assistant of the Institute of National Security Studies (INSS) participated to the 9th Sri Lanka Biennial Conference on Science and Technology (BICOST – IX) organized by the National Science and Technology Commission of Sri Lanka (NASTEC) which was held on 23rd and 24th may 2023 at the Waters Edge, Battaramulla. The opening remarks were delivered by Prof. Veranja Karunaratne, Chairman, NASTEC. The keynote speech was delivered by Prof. Gehan Amaratunga, University of Cambridge, UK.
The conference theme was “Science, Technology, and Innovation for Sustainable Development in the Era of Climate Change” and consisted of four technical sessions. Namely, first session titled “Climate Change, Agriculture, and Food Safety” - Prof. Buddhi Marambe, Chairman, Climate Change Agriculture and Food Security. The second session titled “Nutraceuticals and Lead Medicinal Compounds from Endemic Bio Resources” - Prof. Sirimali Fernando, Chairperson, Nutraceuticals, and Lead Medicinal Compounds Derived from Endemic Bio Resources. Third session titled “Natural Resources and Minerals”- Dr. R.D. Guneratne, Chairman, Natural Resources and Minerals. And fourth session titled “Renewable Energy, Green Hydrogen, and Energy Storage’’- Prof. Ajith De Alwis, Chairman, Renewable Energy, Green Hydrogen and Energy Storages.
