The incumbent overlooking Director Media of the Ministry of Defence Col. Nalin Herath has been appointed as the overlooking Director General of the Institute of National Security Studies (INSS) with effect from today (Oct 05).
This 28 years served military veteran who is also an author, motivational speaker and a freelancer renowned amongst the military officers as a lecturer on current affairs has been handpicked to the said post following the retirement of his predecessor Rear Admiral Dimuthu Gunawardene (Retd), by Defence Secretary General Kamal Gunaratne.
Col. Herath concurrently retains in his current role as the Director Media and Spokesperson of the same Ministry in addition to the new assignment.
This veteran has earned a Master’s Degree in Management from KDU, a Post Graduate Diploma (Pg Dip) in Strategic Defence Management and another Pg Dip in Human Rights from the University of Colombo.
He is also a prominent instructor in Human Rights (HR) and International Humanitarian Law (IHL) in the Army and has engaged in lecturing to military human resource including the Special Task Force.
This close associate of the ICRC is reputed as a visiting lecturer where his service is always sought by the state, private and foreign institutions.
