INSS Hosts Successful Intern Research Defense

On 1st July 2024, the Institute of National Security Studies (INSS) held its bi-annual intern research defense, a pivotal component of its internship program to foster analytical and presentation skills among aspiring interns.

Chaired by Colonel Nalin Herath, Acting Director General and Director of Research at INSS, the panel included Dr. Anuradha Rodrigo, Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Arts, University of Colombo, and Brigadier KVP Dammika, Director of the Defence Cyber Command and Information Warfare Centre, Ministry of Defence, Mr. Satheeshmohan, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Strategic Studies, General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University, Ms. Nilmini Ulluwishewa, Director of Administration at INSS, and Miss Charani Patabendige, Acting Research Analyst at INSS.

Five interns showcased their research projects:

    • Mr. Rivindu Perera and Mr. Shashika Lakshan, supervised by Lt. Colonel Palitha Herath, Military Research Officer at INSS.

    • Miss Thanuri Jayodya, supervised by Miss Chandani Dissanayake, Research Assistant.

    • Mr. Rajinda Jayathielleka, supervised by Wing Commander Udith Pathirana, Military Research Officer.

    • Miss Lakshi Upananda, supervised by Mrs. Kalpani Gunathilaka.

The defense provided a robust platform for interns to present and defend their research findings, receiving constructive feedback from the panel. It marked a significant milestone in their professional development, encouraging critical thinking and enhancing their understanding of national security
