On August 9, 2024, Wing Commander Udith Pathirana, a Military Research Officer at the Institute of National Security Studies, presented his first international research conference paper titled "Economic and Social Implications of Pyramid Schemes in Sri Lanka: Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing Perspectives" at the 13th International Economic Conference, held at General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University.
In his presentation, Wing Commander Pathirana highlighted the significant threats posed by pyramid schemes, particularly their links to money laundering and terrorist financing, which critically impact national security. His analysis emphasized the urgent need for effective measures to combat these financial crimes, noting their far-reaching economic and social consequences for Sri Lanka.
