A delegation of the National Dangerous Drugs Control Board (NDDCB) led by Mr. AT Darshana, Assistant Director- Research visited the Institute of National Security Studies (INSS) today, Nov 21, 2024). The Overlooking Director General & Acting Director (Research) of the INSS, Colonel Nalin Herath RSP chaired a meeting with the NDDCB delegation which was also attended by members of the INSS research staff. In particular, the meeting was mainly focused, as requested by the NDDCB from the INSS, to undertake joint research by the NDDCB research staff and INSS research staff on dangerous drug-related issues in Sri Lanka and their various impacts on the country's national security. During the discussion, Mr. Darshana highlighted that the NDDCB had selected the INSS for research collaboration on national security as the INSS is the premier think tank on national security studies established and functioning under the Ministry of Defence. In addition, during preliminary discussions various negative impacts on national security caused due to dangerous drug-related issues were discussed and both parties agreed to the set a common working plan for conducting this important research. Moreover, both parties highlighted the necessity of forwarding the research findings and recommendations to related top-level government policymakers and decision-makers for their proper execution and application. At the conclusion of the meeting, heads of the INSS and NDDCB delegation exchanged their respective annual research publications and also agreed to conduct the proposed research expeditiously to add strength to the national security of the country.
