A Round Table Discussion on the timely and strategically significant theme “Air & Space Power: Striking the Correct Balance” was successfully held on 03 February 2026 at the conference hall of the Institute of National Security Studies (INSS).
The event commenced with a welcome address by Major General Ranjan Wijedasa (Retd), Director General of INSS, who set the strategic context for the discussion. During the discussion, Air Vice Marshal Wijesuriya presented a comprehensive examination of the evolution of air power, tracing its historical foundations to its contemporary applications, with particular emphasis on the emerging and increasingly critical domain of space power. He highlighted prevailing challenges and outlined pragmatic approaches to strengthening the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) in the context of evolving security dynamics and rapid technological advancements. After the discussion, a Q and A were welcomed from both physical and online participants. The session concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Lieutenant Colonel Chinthaka Perera, who expressed appreciation to the speaker and participants for their valuable contributions to the discourse.
